I was born in a family where neither of my parents were musical; perhaps my father couldn’t even sing a happy birthday song without going out of tune, but I was raised with music all around me because at my early childhood I liked to listen to all sorts of music. I remember when I was four year old, my father always played popular Chinese tunes with an old fashioned silver karaoke machine which used the big disks about the size of my head. Although I cannot recall the lyrics of the songs, I can still hear the melody from the back of my head like it was yesterday.
When I was 15, I found out about YouTube and immediately fall in love with a tune called “Since We Met” by Tommy Emmanuel. He inspired me to play guitar, to write my own music that tells my story. I composed my first song during a festival that suggest no matter where you are, you come home and spend time with your family. Chinese New Year. That night, I was alone. I can hear all the fireworks in the park next to my apartment, I can hear families celebrate their reunion. My family used to be the same but some how we became so separated from each other. So I wrote this song, to remind me the feel of family.
I get my inspiration from people, places, and thoughts. I try to record every little melody that pops in my head once a while so I can work on the ideas after. I want my music to be meaningful and inspirational to others.
